Steve and Jeff went to the same stupid high school in a lame suburb west of Minneapolis. They didn’t meet until years later when they were dating two sisters from the same family. Jeff asked Steve if he’d like to jam with him in place of Mike Helm, the original U Joint drummer who had just quit. Steve said he didn’t have a drum set. They jammed anyway. A week later Steve bought a drum set and joined the band. Along with original bass player, Mark Tapper, the trio released a self-titled EP and a full-length disc. A couple years later, Mark decided to leave the band to go back to school. Jeff e-mailed Tom through a mutual acquaintance, asking him if he’d like to jam. Tom said he didn’t have a bass. They jammed anyway. A week later Tom bought a bass and joined the band. U Joint has played many a local stage, put out 5 CDs, and warmed the hearts of millions, showing that three plucky kids with a sound in their heads and a dream in their hearts can overcome overwhelming odds and save the world from the forces of evil.
